Wichita Marketing Notes: Get your Google research tools ready

Before you can optimize a website for the keywords your target audiences are typing into Google, you have to find out what those keywords are. To do this, you can use a free resource called the Google Keyword tool.

When you use the keyword tool for the first time, you'll also need to create a free Google adwords account, which you can set up to automatically connect with your Gmail account. Do this by attempting to sign in on the Keyword Tool page, and it will take you to a page that allows you sign into AdWords with your Gmail account.

If you don't have a Gmail account, back up one more step and create one here. This will give you a yourname@gmail.com address, which I recommend using as the centerpiece for all your Google-related SEO work.

ALL THE TOOLS YOU WILL BE ABLE TO ACCESS THROUGH THIS ARE PROVIDED FREE BY GOOGLE, with no strings attached beyond the fact that you'll be sharing information with Google.
More to come on the keyword tool! For now, take a look at it, play with it and get your feet wet.
