There are a lot of reasons to love shooting on HDSLR cameras. For one, they're very small, which makes them easy to handle on those windy, outdoor Kansas video production shoots. Their small size also makes them easy to mount and carry on our Steadicam Merlin camera stabilizer, for super smooth moving shots. We also REALLY like the film texture that can created in an HDSLR, plus the cinematic looks that naturally happen when you use 35mm SLR camera lenses.
Finally, the fact that we shoot everything on prime (non-zooming) lenses with our HDSLR, forces us to move (or "track") the camera rather than using a zoom control, which is exactly how Hollywood camera operators do it.
Be sure and check out our March 14, 2012, entry on the Video Production Kansas diary page of the Ponder:Connect Website for a great comparison video between zooming and tracking.
